30 Buckets

I had an interesting conversation with a friend the other day.  We were talking about our goals and the goal writing process (this friend also happens to be a co-worker of mine so we have gone through the same process).  We got to talking about some of our specific respective goals and how, in the greater vision of our lives, they don’t quite fit.  That’s not to say that they aren’t important, but they just don’t have the same feeling as our other goals.  She mentioned that she had added a section in her goals for her “bucket list” type goals.  I liked the idea of that.  There are goals of mine that probably fit in that category.  And while you can certainly put many goals there, some just feel more like bucket list goals than over-arching, life changing goals.

With that in mind, I am thinking through a 5 to 10 item list of long term bucket list goals.  In the mean time, I decided that I would make an “I’m turning 30 in 8 months” list of things I want to do before my birthday in September.  And in honor of surviving another decade, why not make it 30 items?  The problem is it’s not that easy to come up with 30 things that I want to get done this year that aren’t bigger, long term goals! 🙂

Fitness Bucket

  1. Get my Crossfit Endurance Certification
  2. Complete the Crossfit 45 day challenge
  3. Complete a 60 day yoga challenge (60 yoga classes in 60 days)
  4. Create a cookbook of my favorite recipes
  5. Take a cooking class at Central Market

Adventure Bucket

  1. Drive for five hours in any direction (well, let’s say north since 5 in any other direction still lands you in TX) and stay wherever I stop for the weekend
  2. Get my wreck dive scuba certification
  3. Do a solo sky dive (preferably diving over the ocean)
  4. Audition for a role in a play
  5. Compete in one amateur MMA fight
  6. Ride the bull at Billy Bob’s
  7. Participate in live band karaoke
  8. Learn how to snowboard
  9. Go bungee jumping
  10. Climb a fourteener in Colorado

Leisure Bucket

  1. Read War and Peace (one of the few Tolstoy books I haven’t read)
  2. Form a trivia night team and win 🙂
  3. Create a signature drink and perfect it
  4. Go to Lonestar Park’s Dollar Day
  5. Go to a Frisco RoughRider’s game and rent the pool
  6. Go on a photo scavenger hunt somewhere

Miscellaneous Bucket

  1. Go to San Antonio and see the Alamo, Riverwalk, and Sea World
  2. Go see the bats in Austin
  3. Go to Schlitterbahn
  4. Spend a weekend in Big Bend
  5. Go to a casino in Shreveport
  6. Go to ACL
  7. Go to Scarborough Faire
  8. Go to the North Texas Irish Festival
  9. Volunteer at a triathlon

I’d join in for everything but 1, 2, and 8 on your adventure list. I need to vol in a race too; been meaning to since last season

Love the list-lots to do!! Got me thinking-I am WAY past 30, and halfway through 40….think I can make a 50 Bucket List??

I think my fave on this list is #1 on the Adventure Bucket. I would LOVE to do something like this! So spontaneous! Be sure to wear padded pants when you snowboard…just trust me on that one. AND, there is no way I would EVER jump out of a plane that is in the air!

You’ll have to keep us posted on how the list is going! Sort of like a bucket list report.
